People and their lifestyle living in Tankshal ni Pol
People of Ahmedabad, ‘Ahmedabad ni loko’, as they say in Gujarati, widely spoken language in Ahmedabad. They are usually known for their generosity and kindness.
The first thing you learn when you enter Gujarat, is Business- ‘Dhando’, the word which when broken, turns up as ‘dhan’ + ‘do’, which literally means, give wealth. People here support each other, economically, emotionally, or by any other means. One cannot see prominent class differentiation here, each individual respects the other’s financial condition, their culture and habits. This is one of the reasons why businesses flourish well in Gujarat. They are hardworking, one can always see them spending their time in some or the other constructive ways
It is to be noted that they don’t forget to celebrate life in this hustle. Ahmedabad is known for celebrating Navaratri, Uttarayan and Diwali. The city immerses in colours during such festivities, colo
rful motifs and patterns are seen all over from outfits, kites, to earthen lamps. They carry a sense of pride while sharing knowledge regarding the city’s history. These festivities celebrate brotherhood, diversity, culture and also food culture.
Ahmedabad’s community is a big foodie. They always find a reason to celebrate. Gujarati cuisines like Dhokla, Khandvi, Fafda and Jalebi, are known to be served with great pleasure. One should surely try street food of Manek Chowk for Veg Cuisines, and street food of Teen Darwaza for Non-Veg Cuisines, during their visit to Ahmedabad. It is said that Gujarati's eat with open hearts all day long, and to lose calories, they wait all year round for Navaratri, to do Garba (Gujarat’s folk dance) all night long.
Ahmedabad has rich culture rooted in it, with several museums, art galleries, and it is commonly referred to as Design Hub. It is also famous for the textile industry, and traditional crafts like bandhani and block printing. Hence, one can see a lot of colours in folk’s outfits. I have personally observed that, people from deserted areas usually prefer wearing colourful outfits contrasting the monotonous theme of desert sand (as in Kutch). Whereas people from forest areas usually prefer whites which contrasts with the color schemes of trees and flowers (as in Kerala).
From art to architecture, from career to culture, Ahmedabad and its folks would never disappoint you and you will surely take loads of memories from your trip back to your home. They will greet and treat you with an everlasting smile on their face.
